Olivia’s Christening Day

Outside our beautiful church.

It’s two day’s after Olivia’s christening and the people under this roof are nursing some serious sore heads. Sign of a good day then!

All the preparations over the past few months resulted in the day running smoothly and the whole experience of the baptism itself was just beautiful, then the afterparty with all our family and friends was fantastic! Being new parents our social life has taken a backseat but we made up for it yesterday, no better day really!

My blog post that I wrote recently about my hunt for something to wear got me in a terrible tizzy and I scoured many a shop to find the perfect mix of Helena Christensen and Victoria Beckhams’ style all in one!
Gone was my fantasy of wearing that Preen dress, ha!
Instead I went for a more realistically priced leopard dress and silk/satin shoes by Zara. I absolutely loved it when I tried it on, but because my normal style is generally looser fitting clothes, it was quite a big deal for me to wear something so tight!
I then went through a phase of not feeling comfortable in it so I went back to Dublin the following week to change it but luckily I couldn’t find anything nicer and now I’m delighted I kept it.
Little O was kitted out in Zara too for the afterparty. She looked so adorable. Her beautiful lace christening gown was her daddy’s, it was pretty special wearing something that’s been in his family for generations. I also wanted to put an accessory in O’s hair but I needed something that wouldn’t take from the dress, so I went to my local haberdashery shop and bought a length of crochet flowers and some elastic and sewed it together myself, and hey presto, O had a beautiful headband, all for €3.50!

Organising my baby’s christening was a very enjoyable experience, Our day turned out hassle free, the food was taken care of at our venue (it was delicious) and everyone just sat back and relaxed, that’s what it all boils down to really. Olivia received very generous and beautiful gifts and we’re very grateful for that, thank you all so much x

  1. Hi
Just wanted to ask where did you get Olivias christening
Gown. I’m having trouble finding one !!! I loved your idea
    For Olivia s hairband .

    1. Hi Catherine, the christening gown is Olivia’s dads, he wore it for his christening too, so it’s a family heirloom. It’s beautiful. The hairband was so easy to make. Thanks for your comments. Aileen x
